How much does it cost to attend DPA?
DPA is a tuition-free, open-enrollment, public charter school in Washington, D.C.
Charter schools have the flexibility to be innovative, entrepreneurial, self-governing, and yet are held accountable for student and operational performance. Each charter school is different, thus offering parents a variety of choices so they can select the school that best fits their child's unique learning style. In exchange for operational freedom and flexibility, charter schools are subject to higher levels of accountability. Charter schools, which are tuition-free and open to all students, offer quality and choice in the public education system.
Who can attend DPA?
We are enrolling 240 students who will be entering 6th and 7th grades for SY 2019-2020.
DPA is committed to serving all students, including students with diverse learning needs. DPA will continue to enroll 120 sixth grade students each year after. By the 2020-2021 school year, we will be fully enrolled with 360 students.
What subjects will I study at DPA?
DPA’s core classes are English, Math, Computer Science, Social Studies, Science, physical education, and robotics.
What kinds of clubs or extracurricular activities will you offer?
We currently offer clubs including Student Council, National Society of Black Engineers Jr., yearbook, poetry, manga/anime, and young entrepreneurs..
What are the school hours?
The school day is 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. DPA requires students to participate in at least one sport or physical education activity during the school day. DPA will provide extended day until 6:00pm every day of the week.
Is there a uniform?
Yes. We will finalize specific requirements in early 2018.
Does each student receive a computer?
Digital Pioneers Academy is a 1:1 school, which means each student will receive his/her own computer to use throughout the duration of the day.
If you do not have a computer at a home, then that is not a problem. Students will have access to their own personal computer at school and students will have opportunities during the day or after school to have access to computers for necessary assignments.
What is the full DPA charter petition?
DPA submitted its charter application in March 2017, and full approval in June 2018 from the D.C. Public Charter School Board. The full charter application can be viewed here.
